In January of this year, I finally upgraded my old Blackberry. The photos were pretty shite and I didn’t really take them seriously.
Enter the iPhone.
Now I’m far from being a fan of Apple’s stuff. Quite the opposite, really. But after trying out another phone and having it fail on me, I gave in and bought an iPhone.
Since I don’t usually carry my DSLR or even my compact camera with me everywhere, but I do have my phone, I’ve started using the iPhone’s camera a lot. The convenience, portability and ability to easily and quickly share images is unparalleled.
So 2012 has been interesting because quite a few images I’ve taken were not with my DSLR or compact camera, but with my phone. And while it’s definitely lacking in features and I doubt it’ll ever live up to my expectations when compared to the images DSLRs are capable of, I’ll always prefer a photo taken with my phone over no photo at all.
I’ve yet to sort through my thousands of RAW images taken with my Canon 5D Mark II, but it was pretty easy to cull some of my favorite iPhone images, most of which I shared on Instagram throughout the year. I played a lot with the filters that come with Instagram, and while some of the post-processing is a bit overdone, it was a fun experiment nonetheless.
Since the end of the year is typically a time of reflection of the year gone by, I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from 2012. Enjoy!
