As the name discloses, there are 5 towns along this stretch of the Ligurian Italian coast & we chose to stay in Vernazza at a small bed & breakfast called La Malà.
With 4 distinct rooms to choose from, La Malà is perfect if you’re looking for the antithesis of a large chain hotel (not that you’d even find that in Vernazza, because it doesn’t exist here).
This time we splurged and stayed in Room 31, the largest of the lot. It’s a rare thing for us to do since we like to spend most of our time out exploring, but this time we figured we’d go for it. It’s not every day you’re in the Cinque Terre & we were looking for a sea view.
Room 31 is airy, bright & spacious with large windows overlooking the sea.
Tea & coffee was available, as was complimentary bottled water & juice in the in-room mini-fridge.
After feasting on some food, we headed back to our room to catch the sunset. Just beautiful.
While the building where the rooms are doesn’t have a place for breakfast, the B&B gives you vouchers to use at a tiny cafe that sits in Piazza Marconi, the central area of Vernazza.
Here are the delicious treats we had for breakfast.
We really enjoyed our stay at La Malà. While English was a bit of a challenge at times, they were really helpful & friendly.
Vernazza may be small, but it’s not the easiest town to navigate. The alleyways are tiny, narrow and hopelessly crooked. Finding your way at first is a difficult task. But the awesome thing about La Malà is that they told us to call them when we arrived at the train station so they could send someone to meet us and show us the way. The guy who came to greet us even insisted on carrying our luggage for us.
The room was clean & had all the modern amenities you might expect: an en suite bathroom, a/c, mini-fridge (with free beverages – you don’t see that every day!), tv (which we didn’t use) & phone.
The best part, of course, was the view & location. I’m glad we stayed in Vernazza as it ended up being my favorite of the 5 towns, and I liked that the room was perched up on the cliff with magnificent views of the sea. I’d certainly recommend a stay here.
