After visiting Lake Como, we made our way to the Dolomite Mountains of northern Italy where we stayed in a little town called Castelrotto (or Kastelruth as it’s known to the German-speaking peeps). For us, it ended up being a really good base for our first trip to the area, but after driving around to some of the other nearby towns, I think they would’ve served equally well.
We stayed at a small place called Residence-Hotel Vroni. While the address is technically in Castelrotto, it was actually nearer to Siusi, a town I actually liked a little bit more than Castelrotto. It had the feel of a smaller town and I thought the setting was a bit more dramatic & beautiful.
Here’s a photo of Hotel Vroni from its garden. It’s not a large area, but there’s a few benches and some lawn chairs where you can sit & read a book or just relax.
Here’s the view of the Dolomites from the hotel. If that’s not awe inspiring I don’t know what is. :)
Our room was actually more like a studio apartment. It had a little kitchen, sitting room and bedroom – though the bedroom wasn’t separated by a wall but a large wardrobe partition.
I’d never seen individual comforters on the same bed before, but it worked out nicely. The puffy down was uber comfortable & cozy.
The hotel also had a continental-type breakfast that was included (pastries, fruit, cereal…). Here’s the view from the breakfast room. It would be easy to linger here over breakfast all day long.
And here are those chairs I mentioned earlier. After a long day of sightseeing we were so happy to sink into them.
Another magnificent view from the hotel.
We quite enjoyed our stay at Hotel Vroni. It met all of the basic requirements in that it was clean, the location was awesome, the breakfast was good, and the staff was friendly enough. Though of all the places I’ve been to in Italy, the Dolomites was the one place where I’d found fewer people who were fluent in English. On occasion I had to try out a bit of the Italian I had learned before our trip but I’m pretty sure only I knew what I was trying to say most of the time. :)
