Flowers of the Cinque Terre, Italy

by Kim

A huge part of traveling is seeing things you wouldn’t normally see wherever it is you live.

I’m a big sucker for flowers & exotic-looking plants, so my eyes – and camera lens – tend to gravitate towards the ground in search of interesting-looking things.

When we were hiking along the well-known path connecting the 5 towns of the Cinque Terre, Italy, we came across some real gems. While I’m an admirer of botanicals, I’m sadly uninformed when it comes to identifying them so unfortunately I have no idea what these are called.

This has to be one of the strangest but oddly beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen. So many different shapes that just seem to keep growing out of the middle. And the colors are so bright & vivid.

These two are cacti-type plants, I’m guessing, both with lovely blooms but very different looking from each other.

And finally, the ever-present bougainvillea (at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it is :). You’ll often see flowers like these in tropical areas (they were all over Hawaii, too).

Do you ever come across exotic- & different-looking flowers on your travels? Do you know the names of any of these?
